SE-50EEE, International Conference on Earthquake Engineering, 2013

Prota participated in the conference SE-50EEE, International Conference on Earthquake Engineering held from 29 to 31 May 2013 in Skopje, Macedonia.

We have been contributed to the Seismic Retrofitting of Structures and Protection of Historic Buildings Session of this conference which is one of the most important moments in marking the 50th anniversary of the 1963 Skopje Earthquake. The aim of the conference is to share experiences, exchange the knowledge of the latest research results and design innovations in the field of earthquake engineering.

The three-day symposium program included technical papers, keynote sessions, oral and poster presentations on the following topics:
  • Lessons from Damaging Earthquakes
  • Engineering Seismology
  • Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering
  • Dynamic Analysis of Structures and Seismic Codes
  • Experimental Mechanics, Control of Structures and Structural Health Monitoring
  • Seismic Retrofit of Structures and Protection of Historic Buildings
  • Societal, Economical and Managerial Aspects

"Dynamic Analysis of Structures and Seismic Codes" Session of the Conference was chaired by Danyal Kubin, General Manager of Prota. Our Earthquake Engineering Expert Dr. Bahadır Sadan have presented a paper entitled “Performance Based Nonlinear Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of A R/C Building with Steel Braces” jointly written with D. Kubin, B. Sadan, A. Ozmen, J. Kubin and E. Eroglu from Prota and H. Hakalmaz and M. Sencan from Turk Telecommunication Inc., Ankara, Turkey. In this study, the assessment steps, analysis procedures and retrofit design applied to an old reinforced concrete multi storey telecommunication building with torsional irregularity and low material quality have been described. The building has been assessed and retrofitted by added exterior steel braces to the structure. Non-linear pushover analysis has been performed to design the steel retrofit elements. Below you will find a link to the presentation of this study:
