"New Era in Seismic Isolation" Conference

Prota Engineering have attended the conference “New Era in Seismic Isolation”. The main topic of the conference was primarily about earthquake isolation, considered as one of the most important issues for Turkey’s future economic and social conditions.

Other main topics discussed in the conference were;

  • Outcomes of the new earthquake regulations,
  • Design techniques of seismically isolated buildings in developed countries,
  • The future of earthquake isolation: New Goals,
  • Main seismic isolation systems and
  • Application of seismic isolation systems in Turkey.

Gokhan Elgin, the director of Istanbul Project Coordination Unit (IPCU) was the keynote speaker in this event. In his presentation, he talked about one of the biggest projects in Turkey called; “Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP)”. According to Elgin, along with the credit agreements between several institutions such as Word Bank, Europe Investment Bank, Council of Europe Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank, the overall budget of this project has become close to 2 billion euros. He added, several valuable organizations and academicians also contribute to this valuable project.

The president of Turkish Earthquake Foundation, Mustafa Erdik was another keynote speaker in the conference. He talked about the new specifications in Earthquake Isolation Systems. Erdik stated that these specifications are in the approval process by the Council of Ministers and will go into operation in a short period of time.
